Help Find Teen Missing from Columbia, SC

It has been five days since 15-year-old Gabbiee Swainson was reported missing from her northeast Columbia (South Carolina) home.  Since then, Gabbiee's mother, Elvia Swainson, filed a police report, hired a private investigator, and continued to search on her own. Hundreds of volunteers went door-to-door to homes and businesses to make sure people recognize and remember Swainson.

Drivers in the Summitt are being given the flier of information about Gabbiee. "We're doing everything possible that we can think of to bring my baby home," said Elvia. "I believe she is still alive."  Elvia says she came home from work around 7 a.m. Saturday to Gabbiee's alarm clock going off, but no Gabbiee.

"I didn't see her in her bed. I panicked. I froze for a moment," Elvia said. Elvia says her daughter would never run away from home. She didn't take her keys or her purse. The only thing missing is her cell phone.

"We've been calling and texting and at this point, nothing," Elvia said. "The phone is going straight to voicemail."  The Richland County Sheriff's department has been working this case. They say there are no signs of foul play. The investigator says she's checked all the social media sites and her computer, but have found no credible tips.

Gabbiee is scheduled to start her sophomore year at Ridgeview High School on Thursday.  If you have any information that can help, please call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.

My black History Month Contribution

Good Day All -- Yes I realize I waited until the last day of Black History Month to make this post but hey, better late than never, right? I came across this poem while studying about the "certain women" of the bible who were disciples of Jesus Christ. There are also "certain women" in our own rich Black "Herstory" This poem from Alice Walker sums it up best for me

"Women" by Alice Walker

They were women then
My mama's generation
Husky of voice- Stout of
Step
With fists as well as
Hands
How they battered down
Doors
And ironed
Starched white
Shirts
How they led
Armies
Headdragged Generals
Across mined
Fields
Booby-trapped
Ditches
To discover books
Desks
A place for us
How they knew what we
Must know
Without knowing a page
Of it
Themselves.

Happy Black History Month!
