My black History Month Contribution

Good Day All -- Yes I realize I waited until the last day of Black History Month to make this post but hey, better late than never, right? I came across this poem while studying about the "certain women" of the bible who were disciples of Jesus Christ. There are also "certain women" in our own rich Black "Herstory" This poem from Alice Walker sums it up best for me

"Women" by Alice Walker

They were women then
My mama's generation
Husky of voice- Stout of
Step
With fists as well as
Hands
How they battered down
Doors
And ironed
Starched white
Shirts
How they led
Armies
Headdragged Generals
Across mined
Fields
Booby-trapped
Ditches
To discover books
Desks
A place for us
How they knew what we
Must know
Without knowing a page
Of it
Themselves.

Happy Black History Month!

Update on Missing Arizona Girl

Jahessye Shockley's Mother Arrested -- Child Still Missing!

Jerice Hunter was arrested on child abuse charges "directly related to Jahessye," Glendale Police Sgt. Brent Coombs said. State Child Protective Services removed Hunter's four other children, including a newborn, from her home in October, but declined to say why, and police said they had no involvement in the decision to take them away. Police are not investigating any other suspects but are looking into the possibility that someone else helped Hunter cover up the crime.

5 year old Missing!

Have you seen Jahessye Shockley?

Authorities firmly believe that the child's body is in a landfill south of the Phoenix, AZ area, and they are now deciding whether to search for her. Decomposition will present a challenge to the search effort, Glendale Police Sgt. Brent Coombs said, making it difficult to pinpoint Jahessye’s exact location.

Police say the child's mother, Jerice Hunter has been uncooperative in the investigation, and that she has refused to take a lie detector test. Hunter maintains her innocence.

About six months before Jahessye disappeared, Hunter was investigated by state Child Protective Services, but police found no signs of abuse. The mother had previously served about four years in prison for child abuse charges in California stemming back to a 2005 arrest. She was released on parole last May.
